Instrumental Performance

FoPA supports the DSHS academic instrumental music program – concert band and jazz band -- in many ways, including purchasing equipment for the band room, providing funds for competitions, and hosting breakfasts before major performances.

The concert band and the jazz band are lead by Janice Barry, the Fine Arts Department Chair for Dover-Sherborn and Director of Bands at the Middle School and High School.

FoPA provides logistical and fundraising support for two annual music events. The Jazz Brunch, held each fall, is always a great time with delicious food and wonderful entertainment by DSHS performing artists. The newly established Music Banquet in the spring provides an end-of-the-year celebration for instrumental and choral students and recognizes graduating seniors and their many contributions to the music program while students at DSHS.

FoPA also provides scholarships to outstanding student musicians as selected by faculty. In 2017, FoPA announced a new scholarship for graduating seniors in honor of the retiring band director: The Robert N. Martel Scholarship for demonstrated ability, initiative, and creativity in music composition and/or arranging.
